Microneedling in Portland | Collagen Induction Therapy | Be Smooth

Microneedling /
Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling is one of the most effective skin rejuvenation treatments available — and at Be Smooth in Portland's Pearl District, we've elevated it with the most advanced infusion options on the market. Whether you're targeting fine lines, acne scarring, uneven texture, or enlarged pores, our microneedling treatments stimulate your skin's own natural repair process for results that improve with every session.

Microneedling — also known as Collagen Induction Therapy — uses a professional device with fine needles to create microscopic channels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries trigger the skin's natural healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and releasing the body's natural repair messengers — cytokines and growth factors — deep within the skin.

The result is firmer, smoother, more even-toned skin that continues to improve in the weeks following each session.

What are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny vesicles — natural messengers produced by stem cells — that carry powerful signals between cells to trigger the body's healing and regeneration responses.

At Be Smooth, we use a concentrated exosome solution derived from human stem cells, guaranteed to contain 10 billion exosomes per vial. Rich in growth factors, peptides, and proteins, exosomes deliver potent rejuvenating signals directly into the skin channels created by microneedling. They accelerate healing, promote collagen production, decrease inflammation, and improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity.

Exosomes are mixed with hydrating hyaluronic acid for an additional layer of deep skin nourishment during your session.

  • Faster, more intense results: Exosomes, which are signaling vesicles containing a cocktail of growth factors, lipids, and RNA, are known to deliver faster, more powerful results than PDRN.

They are ideal for rapid post-procedure healing and for those who want a quicker, visible improvement in skin radiance, texture, and pigmentation.

Comprehensive regeneration: With a diverse payload of biomolecules, exosomes can stimulate multiple cellular pathways at once.

This results in enhanced effects beyond collagen production, such as boosts to elastin and hyaluronic acid levels.

High-tech reputation: Exosomes are considered a "next-generation" regenerative therapy, and some may opt for them due to the advanced technology and higher potency associated with the treatment.

What is PDRN?

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a regenerative compound derived from DNA fragments — most commonly from salmon — that has been used in regenerative medicine for decades.

What makes PDRN exceptional is its ability to stimulate tissue regeneration at a cellular level, encouraging your skin to repair itself more efficiently. When infused during microneedling, PDRN amplifies the treatment's collagen-boosting effects and supports faster, more visible results.

  • Slow and Gradual but Consistent Regenerative Effects.

Safety and established history: PDRN is a mixture of DNA fragments, most commonly from salmon, and has been used in regenerative medicine for decades with a strong safety record. The rigorous extraction and purification process is designed to eliminate proteins and peptides that could cause an immunological reaction. The potential risk is primarily limited to those with a specific salmon or seafood allergy.

Gentle, long-term repair: PDRN is known for its slow and gradual but consistent regenerative effects. It is an excellent choice for long-term skin health and for individuals with sensitive, inflamed, or damaged skin due to its calming properties.

Targeted healing and hydration: PDRN provides the foundational materials—nucleotides and deoxyribonucleotides—that cells need to repair DNA and build new tissue. It excels at strengthening the skin barrier, boosting hydration, and promoting angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), which is particularly beneficial for scars and aging skin.

Anti-inflammatory properties: By activating the adenosine A2A receptor, PDRN is an effective anti-inflammatory agent that reduces redness and irritation

PDRN is generally well-tolerated by most skin types, including sensitive or compromised skin. Since it’s a biologically active ingredient, products undergo rigorous purification processes to ensure safety. It’s ideal for:

    • People in their late 20s and above concerned with ageing or dullness

    • Individuals with compromised barriers or reactive skin

    • Anyone looking to enhance overall skin health and repair

What To Expect From Your Microneedling Session

Your microneedling appointment at Be Smooth begins with a full consultation and skin preparation. A topical numbing cream is applied for your comfort before treatment begins. Your esthetician will then perform microneedling using a professional-grade device, followed by infusion of your chosen serum — Exosomes or PDRN — and LED light therapy to support healing.

After your session, your skin may look pink and warm, similar to a mild sunburn. This is a normal part of the healing process and typically fades within 1–2 days. As your skin continues to heal over the following weeks, you'll notice visible improvements in tone, texture, and brightness.

Keep your skin clean, moisturised, and out of direct sunlight while it heals.
